Mary Dail (married name Mary Dail Dixon) was the first student to enroll in the North Carolina State Normal and Industrial School for Women. She received her teaching certificate in 1894. She lived in Wake County and began a highly successful business baking and selling cakes. She published a cookbook on baking cakes titled "Baking Cakes with You." Many interviews and many of her recipes were published in Wake County newspapers. She was a member of the Wake County Home Demonstration Club. The Mary Dail Scrapbooks contain newsclippings and correspondence relating to her and her family. The scrapbooks date between 1924-1942. The collection also includes her teaching certificate from the North Carolina State Normal and Industral School for Women and a photograph.
