Odra Oñate (b. 1980), of Guayaquil, Ecuador, served as an aviation storekeeper and a master-at-arms in the United States Navy from 1998-2005 and has been in the Navy Reserve since then. Odra Oñate was born on 10 March 1980. Oñate joined the U.S. Navy on 4 August 1998, in Bronx, New York. Oñate boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois from 4 August 1998 to 12 October 1998. After boot camp, Oñate was stationed at the Naval Station in Mayport, Florida from November 1998 to December 2001. She served as Aviation Storekeeper/E-4, typing messages for 40 ships (supplies and gear) and then later moved across the street delivering parts to the Halo missile squadrons until she was transferred. While Oñate was stationed at the Naval Station in Florida, the 9/11/2001 terrorist attack occurred, and she was activated as a part of the Auxiliary Security Force (ASF). Oñate’s next duty station was at Masters-at-Army school from January 2002 to March 2002. She went to school for 3 months to become an MAA (or Military Police). From March 2002 to March 2004, Oñate was stationed at the Naval Support Activity in La Maddalena, Italy as a Military Police (E-5). While Oñate was in Italy, she met her future husband, and in 2003, they married. In March 2004 – September 2005, Oñate was stationed at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California, where she served as military police (E-5). Here she became watch commander and then was deployed on the USNS Mercy for 5 months to help the people in Banda Aceh, Indonesia who were impacted by the 2004 tsunami. In October 2005 to December 2007, Oñate worked in the U.S. Navy Reserves at the Navy Operational Support Center in San Diego, California. While at the Navy Operational Support Center, she served as Assistant Leading Petty Officer (ALPO) for the whole Navy Security Force (NSF) unit. While in the U.S. Navy Reserves, Oñate also served in Florida, Tennessee, and North Carolina. In 2009, Odra Oñate gave birth to twins, and one year later she served as Lead Petty Officer (LPO) of her unit. Later in 2015, she was activated at the Navy Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where 5 people were killed. Oñate left the navy active duty with the rank of E-8/MACS/Senior Chief.
