Saundra Creen, of Hallsboro, North Carolina served in the United States WAF (Women in the Air Force) from 1968-1969. Saundra Creen was born on 26 October 1949 and grew up in Hallsboro, North Carolina on her uncle’s tobacco farm. Her mother was a homemaker, then worked at Dupont, and her father was a World War II Veteran. Saundra Creen graduated from Hallsboro High School in 1968. The same year she joined the U.S. Women in the Air Force (WAF). Creen went to Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, for basic training, then she went to Lowry Air Force Base in Denver for Tech School where she trained in supply. After Tech School in 1969, Creen was stationed at Charleston Air Force Base working in supply. Later in 1969, Creen married her husband, became pregnant, and then was told that she had to leave the Air Force. While she was pregnant and unable to work in the military, she followed her husband as he went to Syracuse University in New York, Japan, Charleston, South Carolina, and Indianapolis, Indiana. She worked for a non-appropriated fund in Japan, civil service in accounting in Charleston, SC and the Army Finance Center and a job with U.S. Custom Service in Indianapolis, IA. After Indianapolis, she moved back to Charleston and worked from home during the last couple years in her civil service career, which was called the Department of Defense Education activity, then she retired. She died in Whiteville, South Carolina on 23 November, 2024.
