Full biography: Flora V. Taylor (b. 1964) served in the Army Reserve from 1983-1985 and as a storekeeper in the Coast Guard from 1985-2005. Flora Taylor was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1964. She attended State Technical Institute at Memphis, Tennessee, and joined the United States Army Reserve in December of 1983, attending boot camp in Fort Jackson, South Carolina in April of 1984. She then changed branches of service to enter the United States Coast Guard, where she completed Coast Guard basic training. Her first duty station was in Savannah, Georgia. She chose to be trained as a storekeeper, which was done in Petaluma, California along with EMT training. From there, she went to United States Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, in New Jersey. Later in her career, Taylor was stationed out of Seattle from 1997 to 2000, spending much of that time off of the Alaskan coast. During that time, she also deployed to Bahrain as part of a beachhead detachment for a six month patrol as part of Operation Southern Watch. In 2005, she retired after a tour with a Facilities Design and Construction Center. She also obtained her associate's degree during her military service.
