Documents Gail Adams' early life; her lengthy service in the United States Air Force between the years 1970-1993; and her life after receiving an honorable discharge. Adams recalls her early life and her mother's remarriage to an air force pilot. She describes the difficulties of being a child in a military family: including constant moves, loss of friends, and a transfer from the United States to Europe. " Adams discusses her reasons for wishing to join the air force, and her lack of direction prior to this decision. She outlines the roles, responsibilities, and difficulties of her numerous assignments. Due to her lengthy service career, Adams is able to discuss the changing role of women from the Vietnam era to the post-Desert Storm period. She also gives detailed descriptions of her various roles: including the operational readiness, military strategy, structural layout, and security arrangements of the Cold War-era Titian II nuclear missile program. " Personal topics include Adams' views on the role of women in the military, civilian corporate culture, the advantages and disadvantages bequeathed to her by her military career, her personal assessment of her historical role, and the obstacles that she had to overcome to achieve success. Adams also discusses the various cultural and political figures that she has met including: Vladimir Putin, George H.W Bush [?], Margaret Thatcher, and Bob Hope. Adams also discusses the personal toll that the crash of a C-130 flight from Pope Air Force Base, resulting in the death of nine crewmen, took on her.
