Designed as a comparison study between this work and the Sonata no. 8 by [Jean Marie Clement] Dall'Abaco. The Martini Sonata (labeled Martino by Cowling) includes both violoncello and continuo lines juxtaposed with the continuo line of the Dall'Abaco work. A few fragments of the violoncello line of the Dall'Abaco appear on p. 4-5. This work traditionally attributed to Sammartini; cf. New Groves listing as doubtful work.
