Terri Larae Leedy (b. 1963), of Annapolis, Maryland, served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist with the United States Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, and the United States Navy from 1979-1997.Terri Larae Leedy (b. 1963), of Annapolis, Maryland, served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist with the United States Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, and the United States Navy from 1979-1997. Terri Leedy was born 15 November, 1963 in Annapolis, Maryland. Leedy and her family lived in Prince George County and then moved to Southern Maryland. She attended Southern High School and Northern High school in Maryland but graduated from Homestead High School in Homestead, Florida in 1979. Leedy joined the Air Force Reserves on 21 September, 1979. She attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas before doing an 18th month advanced training as one of the first women to work with Explosive Ordnance Disposal. The first phase of the training was at Lowery Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. The second, and more intense part of the training, was in Indian Head, Maryland at the Naval Support Facility. While Leedy was there she trained with live ammunition and in dangerous scenarios. Leedy completed her training in Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. Leedy then returned to Florida for her reserve duty for three months before deploying to Osan Air Base in South Korea, where her husband was also stationed. At Osan, Leedy had a child and after a few months, Leedy and her husband returned the United Sates and were stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. Before being stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, Leedy transferred to the Air National Guard. In 1988, Leedy decided to go active duty. She was stationed at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida where she worked with testing newly constructed projects for areas of weakness and was also in school for engineering and physics. She was there for two years before being deployed to South Korea at the Kunsan Air Force Base in 1990. While there Leedy worked as in Explosive Ordnance Disposal for incoming aircraft, checking for live missiles and bombs and then deactivating them. Leedy was in South Korea for year before being transferred in Alaska. While Leedy was stationed at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska she transferred over to the navy and was then deployed as a part of the Desert Storm/ Desert Shield Operation in the Persian Gulf Coast. Leedy was sent there in 1991 to mine sweep for explosive devices and disarm them. She was there for 13 months before being injured when an explosive went off. After being in the hospital for three weeks Leedey was transferred back to Alaska. When Leedy returned to duty, she was assigned to navy boot camp as well as warrant officer training. She was at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida for four months and then sent back to Alaska. While she there she finished up her schooling as a part of the Bootstrap program and was transferred to Whidbey Island, Washington. Leedy left the navy in 1997.
