Oral history interview with Sarah Charles
Primarily documents the life of Sarah Charles and her service with the United States Army National Guard and United States Army. Charles recalls the racial and gender discrimination she felt throughout her time in the military, including being treated as subservient to male soldiers, being passed over for job promotions in favor of male soldiers, and having to deal with the emotional difficulty of the company commander's attitudes towards women. Charles discusses feeling appreciated by the military, and being proud of her achievements in life, including the awards she's received and the help she's been able to provide others, especially women, by being a trailblazer and forging a way for females to come behind her, just as the World War I and World War II women did for her.
