Primarily documents the adolescence of Paulette "Pat" Sweeney and her service with the American Red Cross. Sweeney discusses her adolescence in Cary, North Carolina, her strong desire from an early age to travel, the education she received from Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, later the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the opportunities that the American Red Cross afforded her. Sweeney recalls the positive reception her American Red Cross unit received from the soldiers in South Korea, the tension she felt while working in the Demilitarized Zone, and the enjoyment she experienced by being a facilitator of social interaction with the troops.
