Primarily documents Elizabeth Pedro Taggart's childhood; her service with the United States Navy and United States Navy Reserve; and her life after active duty. Taggart discusses growing up at various military bases throughout the United States before her family settled in Sierra Vista, Arizona around 1972, her Asian mother wanting to raise her as an American so she would have more choices in life, and the criticism her mother received from the Asian community for doing so. " Taggart relates how she was encouraged to finish middle school at an accelerated pace, graduating two years early, and receiving an ROTC scholarship to attend the University of Rochester. She discusses how the navy had more career opportunities for women than the army, wanting to stay in Norfolk, Virginia in order to be with her fianc', and the tension felt between protecting women in the military and giving them equal rights. " Taggart discusses her admiration of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for being strong willed, and her belief that strength of leadership comes from a strong sense of conviction and psychological discipline. " Taggart also relates her thoughts on the Tailhook Scandal,"Don't' Ask, Don't Tell" and life in the civilian world versus the military world.
