Marie Cody served in the United States Navy WAVES during World War II. Marie Cody was stationed in Washington, D.C., and California as a member of the United States Navy WAVES. At that time, she was engaged to pilot Larry Downey, who went missing in action. Cody later began a relationship with Larry's brother Donald through correspondence.
