Lola H. Ryan of McGraw, New York, worked as an operating room nurse in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. Lola H. Ryan of McGraw, New York, graduated from the Charles S. Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Johnson City, New York, in June 1943. She joined the Army Nurse Corps in July 1944 and was sent to Thomas M. England General Hospital in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for basic training. In August 1944, Ryan was stationed at Tilton General Hospital at Fort Dix, New Jersey. She was assigned to the 235th General Hospital in Marseilles, France, in December 1944, where she worked as an operating room nurse. In August 1945, Ryan was reassigned to a hospital in Aix, France, and became the operating room supervisor. She was discharged in 1945 with the rank of first lieutenant.
