Edwina White Thompson (1951-) was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. Thompson attended UNCG from 1969-1973 and majored in sociology. Afterwards she worked in North Carolina in a variety of social welfare positions. She also served as First Lady of Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from 1985-1995 when her husband was appointed Chancellor.
