Harriet M. Poe (?-) was born and raised in East Spencer, North Carolina, near Salisbury. She attended UNCG and graduated in 1971 with a degree in sociology and social work. After working for several years as a social worker, Ms. Poe went on to a career as an investigator with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
