College - Conference on Quaker Education in N.C. 12-31-28 to 1-1-29
Documents regarding a conference on the possibility of changing Quaker education to address new situations. The conference (called The Conference on Quaker Education in NC) was held at Guilford College. Includes a notebook recording the topics discussed at the conference, minutes reiterating what was discussed, and correspondence ranging from invitations, explanations of the conference's purpose, and expressed appreciation for being in attendance.

This folder contains a list of people "To Receive Complimentary Copies of the History," referring to a book about Guilford College's history written for its centennial. There are letters expressing thanks for being sent the book.
Guilford College - Centennial Committee 1933 - 1937
This folder contains records pertaining to the planning of Guilford College's centennial. Includes pamphlets for the centennial, bulletin for the acquisition of a bus. Documents include: programs, reports from the centennial committee, committe agendas, a list of alumni and alumni organizations, a list of registered attendees, and an article called, "People and Things." Also, there are a few schedules and some business cards. Correspondence is generally between Raymond Binford and either Clarence E. Thomas or Clyde A. Milner.
Guilford College - Charter Day - 1934 - R.B.'s Address/Correspondence
This folder contains records pertaining to Guilford College's Charter Day for the 1934 centennial. Includes a pamphlet for the Charter Day address, a Charter Day program, a newspaper clipping titled, "Salem Officials to Attend Observance," a draft for a Charter Day speech, informal notes on Charter Day donations, and an account of the celebration. Correspondence includes plans for the celebration, notations of Guiford history, and congratulations from other colleges such as Duke University, Penn College, Swarthmore College, The College of William and Mary, Pacific College, and Washington College.
Guilford College - Dancing Questionnaire 1932 - 1933
This folder contains documents relevant to the question of whether or not supervised dancing should be allowed at Guilford College. The possibility was a topic of debate as many parents considered dancing to lead children down the path of evil. When Guilford finally allowed chapheroned dancing, the decision was met with mixed opinions. Some expressed surprise approval, while others saw damnation on the horizon. These opinions are expressed in the extensive correpondence in the folder. Included are petitions, one for parents against dancing at Guilford and one by undergraduates agreeing to "refrain from any infraction of the college tradition in regard to dancing" until college trustees make their decision on the matter. There are ballots in the folder that helped decide the vote.
Guilford College - Faculty 1917 - 1934
This folder contains documents pertaining to Guilford College faculty between 1917 and 1934. Included are lists of faculty and their salaries, a diagram outlining faculty hierarchy, a list of all faculty employed since 1888, documents planning the balance of faculty and courses, and copious ammounts of near illegible notes outlining Raymond Binford's own designs regarding faculty. Correspondence in this folder tends to be about the running of the college. Also included is "The Friendly News Letter," Vol. 1 No. 3.

Documents pertaining to the memorials of Lewis Lyndon Hobbs and Mary Mendenhall Hobbs. Correspondence includes Raymond Binford's announcements of the memorial service, replies to condolences and whether or not someone will attend. There is also an account of Dr. Binford's memorial service, and a short history of his life in a letter from Alpheus M. Briggs.

This folder contains reports of Guilford's properties and their worth. Specifically there are records for buildings themselves, their contents, and certain departments. These include the library, King Hall, New Garden Hall, Founders Hall, Cox Hall, Archdale Hall, the Boarding Department, the Kitchen, the Dining Room, and miscellaneous rooms. Mainly these are for 1927, but there are also records for 1920, 1928 and 1931. Correspondence in this folder discusses property appraisals, debts, and planned expenditures.
Guilford College - Museum 1930 - 1938 Correspondence/Plans
This folder contains correspondence for the lending of minerals from the Smithsonian to be displayed at Guilford College. In addition, there is correspondence between Raymond Binford and several parties, for instance, Carolina Steel and Iron Co. planning for the erection of a Guilford College Museum. There are several illustrated plans for this building and notes on what it would cost.

These include various newspaper clippings regarding the Binfords, a pamphlet for Guilford College's Charter Day, a program for the "Junior-Senior Banquet," and several bulletins including "Fifteenth Summer Session (1932),""Freshman Week (1933)," and "Homecoming Number (1933)." Also, there is a certificate certifying that Raymond Binford is a member of the Guilford College Guild.

Ths folder contains correspondence between Raymond Binford and several parties on the topic of coeducational colleges and their history. Letter writers include college presidents such as Joseph A. Serena, Charles Albert Anderson, J. C. Wardlaw, and Agnes Ellen Harris. Also there is a report listing colleges in the southern United States that are 100 years old by 1940, as well as a list of coeducational colleges in the Southern United States.
Guilford College - Presidential Correspondence - A.E. Staley 1936 - 1940
This folder mostly contains correspondence in which Raymond Binford attempts to procure a monetary donation for Guilford College from Augustus E. Staley, a wealthy businessman who made his fortune on corn processing. There are no indications that Binford ever got that donation. This is somewhat confirmed by several newspaper clippings featuring Staley's obituary and memorial service.

Correspondence regarding the hiring and activities of Clarence E. Tobias who worked to improve Guilford's equipment and endowment, as well as organize supporters for Guilford College's centennial in 1934.
Guilford College - Presidential Correspondence - Elbridge Stuart 1934 - 1940
This folder mostly contains correspondence in which Raymond Binford appeals to an Elbridge Stuart for monetary donations to Guilford College. The letters indicate that he was working on charming Elbridge by appealing to Elbridge's family history in Guilford County, though there are no indications that Binford ever got the donation. Included is a pamphlet titled "Guilford College Bulletin of Information," a booklet titled "The Living Endowment," and a eulogy for Stuart.

This folder contains extensive correpondence regarding the running of Guilford College. Topics of note include exchanges between Raymond Binford and Ernestine Milner about the courses she teaches, and exhanges in regard to Clyde Milner's administrative duties as dean. Also there are reports for Clyde Milner's travels, and an article titled, "Biology and Marriage" forwarded by Ernestine Milner.

This folder contains extensive correspondence in regards to the running and activities of Guilford College between 1918 and 1931. Includes suggestions, appeals for information, planning for meetings, and information on a study of the league of nations. Of note are a few letters between Raymond Binford and Clyde Milner in which the former offers the latter a job. In addition there are a few journal articles; one is titled, "Research in College," and the other "Research in College and Professional Schools."

This folder contains extensive correspondence in regards to the running and activities of Guilford College between 1932 and 1950. Of note are letters mentioning the Five Years Meeting, discussions of course materials, future developments for Guilford College, and mentions of The Great Depression. Also there a few expense reports for Raymond Binford's travels, and a report he wrote titled, "Prospective Students Interviewed on Northern Trip.' Finally there are photos of Clyde and Ernestine Milner respectively.
Guilford College - Quaker Brotherhood 1936 - 1940
This folder contains documentation pertaining to an initiative on the part of Rayond Binford called, "The Quaker Brotherhood." The point of the Brotherhood was that Binford would house a group of young men during the college year. They didn't have to pay for room, heat, water or light, but were obliged to do 235 hours of work. Correspondence discusses the program, as well as other programs designed to benefit students who needed aid. Also there is a compilation of quarterly meeting records from various colleges, as well as many near-illegible personal notes by Raymond Binford.
Guilford College - Student Reading Lists
This folder contains several lists of suggested and required reading for specific courses and Guilford College students in general. Courses include social sciences in general and Biology 12. The list of suggested reading for all students is hand-written, and seems mostly speculatory on the part of Raymond Binford.
