R.W. Murray Family Papers

The R.W. Murray Family Papers contain materials pertaining to the Moore, Murray, and Weatherly families, including correspondence, financial documents, literary works, photographs, and printed materials. The highlight is the correspondence between Sarah "Bettie" Moore and her brother Augustus while she was a student at Edgeworth Female Seminary. Also relevant to Edgeworth are a commencement speech and a short manuscript entitled "A Day Spent at Edgeworth," written by Bettie Moore. Other materials include financial documents relating to A&M College (later North Carolina A&T State University) and photographs of members of the Weatherly family. Researchers interested in Edgeworth Female Seminary or the Moore, Murray, and Weatherly families may find this collection worthwhile.

A day spent at Edgeworth
"A day spent at Edgeworth" is a short manuscript by Sarah "Bettie" Moore depicting a typical day for an Edgeworth Female Seminary student in the late 1850s. Included are detailed descriptions of the Edgeworth campus, morning church services, students, and faculty.

Letter from Bettie Moore to Augustus Moore
Included in this folder is one incomplete letter from Sarah "Bettie" Moore to her brother Augustus. Topics discussed include the coming spring season of 1860; Bettie's stay with her Uncle Tom; Augusutus' departure to Florida; and musings on nature and God's will. The item is only one page, front and back, and the remainder is missing.

Included in this folder are four letters between Sarah "Bettie" Moore and her brother Augustus; two are from Bettie and two are from Augustus. Topics discussed include Bettie's friends Mollie Biggs, Eleanor "Ella" Swain, and Delphine "Delli" L. Worth; Bettie's handwriting; the "goings-on" of Williamston, North Carolina; financial matters; plans for the Edgeworth commencement ceremony; and the potential marraige of Dr. Yates and Lucy Biggs.

Included in this folder is a commencement speech entitled "Sketch of our School Days: Their Sunshine and Shade," written by Bettie Moore. It was given at the Edgeworth Female Seminary commencement ceremony on May 25, 1859.
